Theatre arts classes set for August 3
Homeward Bound Theatre Company will offer theatre arts classes Monday, Aug. 1, through Wednesday, Aug. 3, at Hastings High School.
"Where the Wild Things Are" from 10 a.m. to noon where 6- to 11-year-olds will learn creative dramatics and movement with fun and focus; theatre games; and pantomime. Students will develop individual imagination and group cooperation acting out of children's literature such as "Cups for Sale," "Three Billy Goats Gruff," "Goldilocks and the Three Bears," "The Three Little Pigs" and Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are" and perform a small play at the end of the class for family and friends.
"The Sneetches" from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. is where 8- to 11-year-olds will learn the basics of acting and theatre: movement, vocal articulation and enunciation, breathing techniques, the mirror game, pantomime, conflict resolution, character development, monologue, dialogue and group dynamics. With focus on the natural ability of children to pretend, we will play out children's literature such as "Dr. Seuss", "Stone Soup" and other favorite stories as well a creating our own improvisation plays.
