8-year-old cheers with Vikings

An 8-year-old Hastings girl had a big thrill back in October. Ella Morrow, a student at Pinecrest Elementary, earned the opportunity to cheer with the Minnesota Vikings cheerleaders during a game at the Metrodome on Oct. 13.
When asked what the best part was about the big performance, Ella simply said: “Everything.”
The pint-sized performer is a regular at Rain Academy of Dance in Hastings. She also has worked on a few modeling jobs.
“She’s got her toes in a little bit of everything,” said Katie Vortherms, one of the owners and a teacher at Rain Academy. “She loves to perform. It was a whole different world doing the cheerleading thing, but she’s loving it.”
Over the summer, Ella was working at one of those modeling assignments when she learned of the Vikings’ mini cheerleading camp. She auditioned for that and was one of fewer than 30 chosen to perform on the field at the Metrodome.
Ella competes in a variety of disciplines with Rain Academy and has earned Platinum honors at national meets on a number of occasions, Vortherms said.
Ella said that she enjoys dance “because it’s fun,” and said that she wants to be a hair stylist when she grows up.
