Pavel Jany returns for second concert Sunday, Aug. 24

Contemporary guitarist and composer Pavel Jany makes a return visit to the Alexis Bailly Vineyard at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24. His concert is part of the Jazz in the Vineyard series each Sunday through August.

Pavel Jany and the Talking Strings have been on the music scene with a wide range of jazz styles from bossa nova to jazz-fusion. Gary Schulte and Andrew Foreman will join him for the afternoon.

Jany is a Twin Cities based classical and contemporary jazz guitarist and composer who has a degree in classical guitar and music education. He has performed as a soloist, and he is a founder of several Minnesota- based projects including bossa nova and Latin jazz ensemble Ticket To Brasil, Gypsy jazz trio The Talking Strings, and his new international jazz ensemble The World Jazz Collegium.

His performances include local, national and international events such as The Winnipeg Jazz Festival, Minnesota Orchestra SummerFest, Twin Cities Jazz Festival, Ordway World Festival, Midtown Global Jazz Festival, Minnesota State Fair and Sioux Falls Jazz Festival. His music is frequently featured on Jazz 88 KBEM FM and KFAI Radio. He has performed for the former Czech president Vaclav Havel during his visit to the United States.

Jany and his ensembles provide music workshops and presentations through the COMPAS (Community Programs in the Arts in Minnesota), and he works as a guitar instructor at the Youth Enrichment League.

The last Jazz in the Vineyard concert is Aug. 31 when Gondwana returns.

The Jazz in the Vineyard series concerts are held Sunday afternoons in July and August at the Alexis Bailly Vineyard rain or shine. The winery will offer a variety of picnic items for purchase. All its wines will be available for tasting and purchase.

The Alexis Bailly Vineyard is located at 18200 Kirby Ave. Take Highway 61 south from Hastings to 170th Street, turn to the right. Drive two miles; as the road curves, it becomes Kirby Avenue. The vineyard is on the left side.
