Hastings celebrates Memorial Day
Hastings hosted its annual Memorial Day event Monday, May 30.
The day started with a flag ceremony at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings. Events continued at the main program of the day, held at Roadside Park, where a crowd gathered in front of the memorial to remember those who died in service to their country. They keynote speaker was Minnesota National Guard Sgt. Major (retired) Chris Amundsen. Other speakers included Hastings Mayor Paul Hicks, winners of VFW Voice of Democracy Patriot Pen contest, “My Vision for America” by Nick McGrath and “What Freedom Means to Me” by Samuel Krehbiel, American Legion Boy’s State participants and Miss Minnesota Rachel Latuff. Rev. Paris Pasch gave the invocation and Pete and Casey Likes sang the national anthem.
Following the main program, a short ceremony was held at Soldiers and Sailors Cemetery. Events concluded at Veterans Memorial Levee Park, by the new memorial along the riverfront.
The vents were hosted by the Lyle Russell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1210, Nelson Lucking American Legion Post 47 and their auxiliaries.
