In support of Tony Jurgens
To the editor,
Recently, I received a piece of campaign literature stating that Tony Jurgens (candidate for MN House 54B) was not in touch with our community. Of course, this particular piece of literature was not endorsed by any candidate or candidate committee, like so many of these things tend to be. This piece was not paid for by Mr. Jurgens opponent, but by an outside group that supports his opponent. Here are a few of the things they might not know about Tony Jurgens.
I have known Tony since 2005 when we both were beginning our careers in the insurance industry. We shared office space and worked for the same company and district agency for a few years until Tony became an independent agent. I got to know Tony very well during that time and our friendship has continued to develop over the past 11 years. Tony is a very dedicated, caring and hard-working individual who is in touch with Minnesota House District 54B, which covers Hastings, part of Cottage Grove and some of the surrounding townships.
Tony has been a resident of Cottage Grove for over 23 years and was recently named Cottage Grove’s Volunteer of the Year. Starting in 2007, he served on the Economic Development Authority, Public Works Commission and is currently on the Public Services Commission for Cottage Grove. He also has hosted a Night to Unite neighborhood block party for the past 10 years, bringing people closer together and working to keep their neighborhood safe. I know many Hastings residents are saying “but what does he know about Hastings?”
Tony and his wife Dawn take education very seriously and while they felt the Cottage Grove School District was good, they felt Hastings was better for their children. They sent their kids to SEAS School (Tony is also currently the Grand Knight for the Hastings Knights of Columbus council and is on the finance council at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish). After graduating from SEAS, their children attended and graduated from Hastings Sr. High School. Tony has been a long-time supporter of Hastings High School extracurricular activities including sports and music. Between Hastings and Cottage Grove, I am not sure I know anyone who is more in touch with the communities he wishes to serve in St. Paul.
Tony Jurgens… dedicated husband, father, community member and small business person with the experience to work for all of us as an independent voice in St. Paul. Tony will bring a balanced approach to the seat in the Minnesota House of Representatives. Tony is in touch with the community and is the right choice for Minnesota House 54B. In fact, I would say Tony Jurgens is uniquely qualified to represent us in the legislature.
