Letter: Thanks to those who fought for our freedoms

To the editor,

Just last week, I had the privilege of being invited to attend the annual pheasant dinner at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings.

It’s become one of my favorite events as I always enjoy meeting with our veterans, learning about their past, and thanking them for their service to our country.

At times like this I’m also reminded of how appreciative we should be towards those who work with our veterans at these facilities, as well as the service organizations that donate their time and resources in order to sponsor events for our heroes. We are truly lucky to have the veterans’ home and so many retired soldiers living in our community.

With Veterans Day just around the corner, I’d like to thank all of our active and retired military personnel for the sacrifices they’ve made over the years. America is the greatest nation in the world thanks to their willingness to put their lives on hold in order to protect our country’s interests.

On Nov. 11, please join me in offering a sincere thank you to those who have fought for our freedoms.
