The Miesville Mudhens notched their 30th win of the season Sunday afternoon thanks to a strong pitching performance from Chris Olean. He reached double digits in strikeouts with 10, and only walked one in eight innings of work.
Anita Freiermuth, Chairperson of the Hall of Fame Committee, recently announced the winners for the 2010 Miesville Baseball Hall of Fame. Mitch Hartung, Jerry Otto, and Tom Schaffer are this year’s inductees.
The Miesville Mudhens have a knack for winning. They’re sitting comfortably at the top of the Classic Cannon Valley League standings at 10-0, and their overall record (22-3) is nothing to brush off, either.
Amateur baseball fans watched the Miesville Mudhens and the Hastings Hawks face off Sunday in a pitching battle that ended with 14 strike-outs, four hits, one broken bat, and, in eight and a half innings, no runs.
Miesville was unable to come up with timely hitting at the Class B state tournament. It left two runners on in the ninth inning of two tight losses for the elimination. It’s the first time in the last three years that Miesville hasn’t advanced to the final weekend.
One big inning and solid defense lifted Miesville to an 8-3 victory Wednesday over Red Wing. The win gave the Mudhens a sweep of the best-of-five Section 1 playoff series and a trip to the Class B state tournament.
