The Minnesota Department of Transportation told elected officials in Hastings on Wednesday afternoon they planned to reduce the speed limit on Highway 61 between the Hastings bridge and U.S. Highway 10.
Last week we wrote of the importance of getting a portable barrier erected on Highway 61 to keep southbound traffic from crossing into the northbound lanes, and vice versa.
This week, we are proposing one more change to the area. All it would take are a few white and black signs.
The documents are due this week.
The three teams selected to submit bid documents for the Highway 61 bridge in Hastings – Flatiron/Kiewit, Lunda/ Ames and PCL/Edward Kraemer and Sons – will submit their paper work to the Minnesota Department of Transportation by May 17. Within several weeks, the contractor for the new bridge across the Mississippi River will be selected. The bridge design will also be selected.
Two highway projects, one within the city of Hastings, the second just north of the city, are ready to be bid, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation 2010 construction plan released last week.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will discuss the planned Highway 61 projects in and near Hastings this spring and summer at an open house from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, at Hastings City Hall, 101 E. Fourth St.
