MIESVILLE - Second chances can be a beautiful thing and the Miesville Mudhens appreciated a second crack at earning a state tournament berth Saturday at the Minnesota Baseball Association Class B Super Section Tournament at Jack Ruhr Stadium in Miesville.
Two local amateur baseball teams have advanced in postseason play. The Hastings Hawks and the Miesville Mudhens each had strong league tournaments and move on to compete in this weekend’s super section tournaments across Minnesota.
Mudhens starter Luke Rasmussen wasn’t sharp and Miesville left runners on base in the middle innings, but the Mudhens did enough to win at home Sunday.
Rasmussen lasted eight innings and allowed an earned run on nine hits. He struck out four and walked three.
Jimmy Bohmbach drilled a hanging changeup over the left-field wall in the sixth inning Monday to snap a tie and lead Red Wing to a 4-3 victory over the Mudhens. With the win at the Athletic Field, the Aces ended an eight-game losing streak to their rivals from Miesville.
