The Stillwater Ponies are one of the state’s strongest teams. For starters, the Ponies have some good top-end swimmers. In addition to that, they have a huge team, at least in comparison to the one that Hastings brings to the deck every night.
For the first time in more than 15 years, the Hastings boys swimming team faced White Bear Lake. The traditional Suburban East Conference school has just reinstated its boys swimming and diving team, and the Bears are in their first season of competition in the SEC.
For a few minutes of Thursday night’s Suburban East Conference relays, a Hastings relay team held a new meet record. The record was set in the 200 butterfly relay. The Hastings team of sophomores Hayden Schmitt, Thomas Everson, Brandon Underwood and Colby Smith set the new mark in the race with a time of 1 minute, 40.78 seconds.
