As Dean Robinson began coaching his daughter, Brittani Robinson, at the age of 5 in T-ball, he never imagined that he would be a varsity softball coach, let alone a varsity softball coach of a state champion team.
Before the Hastings High School softball season started this March, coach Dean Robinson and his wife Kandi were talking about this year’s team. Dean Robinson was talking about how it wouldn’t be easy for the team this year, as 11 girls had graduated from the 2010 team that placed third at the state meet.
The Hastings softball team had a dominating performance in the first round of the state softball tournament Thursday morning in North Mankato. Hastings, the No. 4-ranked team in the state, beat Bloomington Jefferson, 16-1. The Jaguars were ranked No. 5.
Hastings High School senior Treya Connell pitched a no-hitter and the Hastings softball team cruised to a 10-0 win over Rochester Century in the first round of the section tournament Wednesday night here.
An incredible Hastings softball season just keeps getting better. On Monday, Hastings won their third-straight Suburban East Conference title with a no-hitter. Hastings beat Stillwater in the game, 2-0.
