In order for the Hastings boys hockey team to win last week’s section title game against the highly ranked Eagan Wildcats, everything was going to have to go right for Hastings. The Raiders would have to play their best game, get off to a fast start and get some luck.
The postseason begins tonight (Thursday) for the Hastings boys hockey team. Hastings will play at Highland Ice Arena in the first round of the section tournament against a familiar opponent: Cretin-Derham Hall.
For much of the third period of Saturday’s hockey game between Hastings and Eagan, it looked like the Raiders were going to pull off a major upset. In the end, though, Eagan added two late goals and won, 4-3.
The loss ended the season for the Raiders.
The Hastings girls hockey team, bolstered by a healthy lineup once again, has won three games in a row. The Raiders extended that streak Friday with a 4-0 win over Woodbury. The win improved Hastings’ record to 9-10 on the season.
There was a time a few weeks ago, after the first game of a holiday tournament in South St. Paul, that the Hastings boys hockey team had a record of 3-6. Hastings had lost to Woodbury, and the team had a 2-4 record in Suburban East Conference play.
