With 2:42 to play in Wednesday night’s section basketball game between Hastings and Owatonna, the score was 53-50. The second-seeded Huskies led the seventh-seeded Raiders by a slim margin, and it appeared as though the game was going to be close coming down the stretch.
It’s been a rough season for the Hastings girls basketball team, and the end of the regular season didn’t change any of that. The Raiders lost their final regular season game against Forest Lake 74-36, leaving them 0-18 in the Suburban East Conference.
For most of Friday’s girls basketball game between Hastings and White Bear Lake, it was hard to determine which team was ranked No. 6 in the state and which team was winless in Suburban East Conference play.
A strong first half propelled the Hastings boys basketball team to a 70-50 win over Park on Friday night. Hastings held a 32-18 lead at halftime, then outscored the Wolfpack, 38-32, in the second half.
For the second game in a row, the Hastings boys basketball team dug itself a hole. Again this time, that slow start spelled trouble for the Raiders.
On Friday at home against Forest Lake the Raiders fell behind right away, 10-2. Hastings ended up losing by 11 points, 60-49. Hastings is now 6-8 overall and 1-6 in the Suburban East Conference.
