Personally, I do not approve of same-sex marriage.
However, now that gay marriage is law in Minnesota, indicating that a majority of Minnesotans believe the gay lifestyle deserves all the legitimacy, respect and approval of the heterosexual lifestyle, what remains to be done?
The state legislature will soon vote on a bill that would expand the freedom to marry to gay and lesbian couples. We hope our legislators will vote yes. We’ve been married for over 53 years. In that time together we have walked with one another through the ups and downs of life.
Certain experiences are game changers. Your life was going in one direction; suddenly it is going in another. Sometimes these experiences are thrust upon us and we get no choice. Other times, we have an opportunity presented to us that we should not let slip by.
It is truly shameful that our Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken are supporting legal status for criminal Mexican illegals. At a time when unemployment among American teenagers is near a record high of 25 percent, extra income is badly needed at many Minnesota households. There are a variety of jobs that should be filled by unemployed teens, not Mexican illegals.
Alleged conservative John Kline has voted to take away more of our Fourth Amendment freedoms by voting to pass CISPA, the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act. CISPA encourages internet service providers to provide the government with your emails, browsing history and other personal information.
As citizens we have a duty to our fellow neighbors. This is where the term civic duty originates. While I may personally feel bad that certain citizens’ vehicles may have been lawfully ticketed and towed based on them not knowing about a snow emergency, even the one interviewed for the recent story realized there was a chance of a snow storm.
I had the opportunity to attend Black Dirt Theater’s production of The Sound of Music” last summer. Up until that time, I thought of community theater as a chance for amateurs to have some fun on the stage, resulting in performances high on enthusiasm but low in quality.

Politics should not decide how to deal with the federal deficit. Politicians have a way of confusing the issues with their own agendas. There are practical solutions that don’t include slashing programs and raising taxes in the short term.
