Work begins on Las Margaritas expansion

Celebrating 100 years - Hastings creamery started downtown, making butter

A lot can change in 100 years. The Hastings Cooperative Creamery Association, which last week celebrated its 100th anniversary, has seen several changes of its own, but one thing has remained at its core. “We seek to benefit our farmers,” said Dave Zwart, the plant manager. The co-op is a milk processing and bottling operation that is owned by the farmers who send their milk there. Currently, there are 105 owners, or patrons, as they’re called. Between them, there are about 8,000 cows. The bottling plant can see up to five milk trucks a day, dropping off about 50,000 pounds of milk each, and the plant does about $40 million in sales per year.

Flint Hills reaches deal on expansion

The Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy of St. Paul, and the Environmental Integrity Project of Washington, D.C. on Tuesday announced they had reached a settlement agreement with Flint Hills Resources to cut greenhouse gas and other air pollution from a proposed expansion of their refinery in Rosemount.

Midtown Tire and Service Center in Hastings recently held a food drive. They collected more than 180 pounds of food during the drive, all of which was donated to Hastings Family Service.

Valley Chevrolet gets a facelift

Hastings’ local Chevrolet dealer has a new look. Work to rebuild the main portion of the dealership is nearly finished. Crews started gutting the old showroom, which was the original 1985 construction, last August. The old showroom was razed, leaving only the automotive service department standing last fall. Work has been under way over the past fall and winter.
