The Hastings boys swimming team handily won another Suburban East Conference dual meet last week. The Raiders beat Roseville, 90.5-74.5. At one point, Hastings led 90.5-49.5 before swimming exhibition only in the final two events.

For 17 years, the Hastings boys swim team has been coached by Gerry Rupp. Going into this season, his team had defeated Woodbury just once. So, forgive Rupp if he’s especially happy this week. Hastings beat Woodbury last week, 86-79, in a meet that wasn’t nearly as close as the score would indicate.

The Hastings boys swimming team finished second at last weekend’s Packer Invitational in South St. Paul. The only team to beat Hastings at the meet was Eau Claire Memorial, one of the best teams in Wisconsin.

Swimming: Raiders take 2nd at sections PressPass

Had last week’s section swimming and diving meet been just the section swimming meet, the Hastings Raiders would be your section champions. Alas, diving is included. And, due to a pool that is too shallow to permit a diving program, Hastings surrendered 63 points to Woodbury. Those 63 points sure came in handy for the Royals, who ended up beating Hastings by 44 points.

If one team can have its swimmers place first and second in the race, you can pretty much bet that team will win.
