Many Farmington residents still feeling storm’s impact
The Aug. 13 tornado that damaged more than 120 homes in Farmington only took a few minutes to rip through the central section of the community, but the damage it caused took nearly 10 days to clean up.

Farmington residents first heard sirens from Dakota Communications Center while they were outside inspecting damage from tornado 
By the time warning sirens sounded Friday morning in Farmington the most serious damage had already been done.
According to Dakota Communication Center interim director Diane Lind warning sirens were activated in Farmington at 3:46 a.m. Aug. 13. But by that time, many residents in neighborhoods hit hardest by the storm were already outside examining homes that had been damaged, garages that in some cases had been demolished and trees that had been uprooted or snapped in two.

3M, Cottage Grove strike deal
It’s a deal. With one council member calling it “the best we can do,” the Cottage Grove City Council on Wednesday OK’d an air monitoring deal with 3M Co. that will track the level of contaminants in the air near the company’s large manufacturing campus in south Cottage Grove and, in exchange, will see the city give up its fight against 3M’s plans to burn hazardous waste from outside the company at its incinerator on the site.
