Book Report: Author revels in fine details
Oh, shucks, thought I. Sara Rath has given up on non-fiction and has taken to penning novels when I received the Spring Green author’s “The Waters of Star Lake,” by Sara Rath (Terrace Books, $26.95).

Letter: Braveheart Rescue needs another chance
I was at our local Walmart store tonight and after hearing some disturbing news, I felt that I had to write one more letter to the editor. I am still so very disturbed about the news of Braveheart Rescue being forced to close.

Letter: Town board should reconsider decision
I recently adopted a dog from Braveheart Rescue in Hastings, so I was saddened to see news of its upcoming closure. People may not realize it, but the old standby for adopting unwanted animals — the local humane societies — have run into really hard times and no longer have the ability to offer many pets for adoption.

The battle to keep Braveheart Rescue open is being fought largely by email. The Marshan Township Board received a substantial stack of email letters from people concerning the closure of Braveheart Rescue. Braveheart owner responds to closure mandate
Eighteen dogs are still waiting at Braveheart Rescue for new, permanent homes. In April, the Marshan Township Board told the rescue, which is located in Marshan Township, that because it didn’t have a proper rescue permit, it could no longer operate. The township does not have an ordinance to allow rescues, and board members denied Tracy's request that they create one.

Letter: Braveheart Rescue needs to be saved
After reading the article about the closing of Bravehart Rescue by Marshan township, I felt that I had to write the paper about my feelings on this matter. I am hoping that many other people step up and make the people who made this decision take another look at what this means not only to the people involved, but to the innocent animals they are condemning. The truth is that some, if not many of these animals, could be put to death because of their selfish and heartless decisions.

Work should begin soon to tear down charred home
Work to clean up the Hastings house destroyed by fire in April should begin this week. The home, located at the intersection of Pleasant Drive and 17th Street West, caught fire after a faulty power inverter box started a fire in a camper parked outside.

By July 17, Braveheart Rescue Inc. will have to shut its doors as a dog rescue.
