About 10 years ago, Penny Hamilton was featured in the Hastings Star Gazette for her very large collection of Elvis Presley memorabilia. Several years ago, she died due to heart-related problems and her husband donated many of the items. Keeping up the fight: Marty Caneff is 30 months into his fight with brain cancer
One morning in April 2010, Marty Caneff of Hastings had a bad headache. He couldn’t shake it, and he told his wife Margie he just didn’t feel right. Within hours, the Hastings father of three was in an ambulance on his way to United Hospital. A CAT scan had revealed a tumor on his brain. “It was horrible — It was totally horrible,” Margie Caneff said. “We didn’t know what was going to happen. That’s the day that our world changed. It was devastating, to say the least.”

Registration opens for 15th annual GobbleGait
The tradition is returning. The 15th annual Gobble Gait, with its familiar message of raising funds and food for Hastings Family Service will be held again on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 22, in downtown Hastings. Begun as a small run/walk in 1998 to benefit Hastings Family Service, the event is no longer small. Last year more than 2,500 participated in the 2K walk and 8K run.
