Letter: Dogs at Braveheart need to be saved
More than six months ago I went before the Marshan Township board and quietly asked them to bring some accountability to the out-of-control shelter known as Braveheart Rescue, Inc. My intent was to avoid the very situation that now looms over that shelter.

Letter: Town board should reconsider decision
I recently adopted a dog from Braveheart Rescue in Hastings, so I was saddened to see news of its upcoming closure. People may not realize it, but the old standby for adopting unwanted animals — the local humane societies — have run into really hard times and no longer have the ability to offer many pets for adoption.

Braveheart owner responds to closure mandate
Eighteen dogs are still waiting at Braveheart Rescue for new, permanent homes. In April, the Marshan Township Board told the rescue, which is located in Marshan Township, that because it didn’t have a proper rescue permit, it could no longer operate. The township does not have an ordinance to allow rescues, and board members denied Tracy's request that they create one.

Braveheart Rescue forced to close by township board
By July 17, Braveheart Rescue Inc. will have to shut its doors as a dog rescue. The rescue, which opened about three years ago just a few miles south of Hastings in Marshan Township, was ordered to close by the Marshan Town Board at its April 17 meeting because owner Brandi Tracy did not have a valid permit.
