The Hastings Lions Club will hold a fundraiser from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Culver’s Restaurant. After customers have placed their orders, Rivertown Lions’ members will assist them. The club will receive a portion of the proceeds from the three-hour time period.

Inmate is guilty of conspiracy to murder attorney
An inmate at the Minnesota Correctional Facility now serving a sentence in Faribault will be sentenced Jan. 16 after being convicted of conspiracy to murder Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom. Jurors reached a verdict Friday, Dec. 7, in the trial of John Stephen Woodward, 49. The jury found Woodward not guilty of conspiracy to commit first-degree assault against a witness in Woodward’s Dakota County criminal case in 2007.

A Hastings man, 45-year-old Louis R. Oliver, faces a felony charge of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree after he allegedly sexually assaulted a college student near Riverside Park in Minneapolis on Nov. 19. The 2012 HPD community input survey was conducted recently, and now the department is going over the responses to determine how it can address the issues brought up in the survey. Approximately 120 people took the survey.
