For years, Hastings football coach Dana Strain has stressed that his team needs to be competitive. He wants his team to have a chance to win games in the fourth quarter. Last year, Hastings accomplished that goal. This year, Strain wants his team to take the next step – he wants the team to start to win some of those close games.

There will be a benefit for Mark Heesch a 1979 graduate of Hastings High School on Saturday, Aug. 18 at the Eagles Club in Hasitngs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be sloppy joes, chips, coleslaw and dessert, $7 a plate. There will also be a silent auction and drawing.

My late friend Dave Goldsmith subscribed to Baseball Digest, several baseball newspapers and even flunked out of a college because he spent his entire freshman year memorizing baseball statistics.
