The freshly painted band stands in the senior high school’s auto mechanic room looked brand new. More were in the process of being painted, and another 60 from the nearby band room were about to be rolled into the room last Thursday afternoon.

The Hastings boys hockey team placed third at a tournament last week at South St. Paul. Hastings technically went 1-1-1 at the tournament, then won a shootout to claim third place.

For 50 years, the Bierstube in Hastings has been the place to go before and after a football game at McNamara Stadium at Todd Field. Boosters obviously are there more often than just those few Friday nights, sipping on suds and getting their fill. The Bierstube sponsors youth teams, bowling teams and softball teams, among others.

Toymaker says hobby keeps him busy, out of trouble. For years Jim Foster has made and donated hundreds of small wooden cars for his church’s bazaar and for a local Christmas program aimed at needy families. He wants no recognition for these efforts.
