18-year-old Naomi Latt has a yearlong battle ahead of her
Just four weeks ago, doctors told 18-year-old Naomi Latt of Hastings that she had cancer. What had started as pain in her hip ended with the sobering diagnosis and the realization that she’d have to drop out of college as she battled what is known as Ewing’s sarcoma.

Vietnam veterans: Hastings men’s story featured in Lawshe museum
Hastings resident Wayne Bauer never really talked about his experience in the Vietnam War until he got involved with veterans’ groups like the VFW, American Legion and Metro Marines. But since the beginning of January, 2011, Bauer’s experience in the war has been part of a public museum exhibit at the Lawshe Memorial Museum in South St. Paul.

Keeping up the fight: Marty Caneff is 30 months into his fight with brain cancer
One morning in April 2010, Marty Caneff of Hastings had a bad headache. He couldn’t shake it, and he told his wife Margie he just didn’t feel right. Within hours, the Hastings father of three was in an ambulance on his way to United Hospital. A CAT scan had revealed a tumor on his brain. “It was horrible — It was totally horrible,” Margie Caneff said. “We didn’t know what was going to happen. That’s the day that our world changed. It was devastating, to say the least.”
