Book Report: Son carries on, expands war narrative
As the River Falls Reads program winds down and folks who have read and enjoyed Michael Shaara’s Pulitzer-Prize winning novel about the Battle of Gettysburg, “The Killer Angels,” are looking for new reading material, I’m happy to report that although Shaara died in 1988, his family lives on in the person of his son, Jeff Shaara, who also writes about the Civil War and has completed his father’s trilogy with “Gods and Generals” and “The Last Full Measure.”

Felony assault is charged
The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office has charged 19-year-old Isaac Lynn Matos Mulhern of Hastings with one felony count of assault in the second degree, one felony count of domestic assault by strangulation and two misdemeanor charges of domestic assault in connection with a Feb. 13 incident at a residence in Ravenna Township.

CR 46/47 trail: New trail closure is part of the deal
Last fall, the City of Hastings finished work on a new trail connection that improved safety for trail users along County Road 46/47, between Pleasant Drive and the Vermillion River overpass. Then, just a few weeks later, in mid-December, the trail was gated off and marked as closed. It has been closed ever since.
