Smart Ride of Hastings would like to say thank you to Neville Amondson for using his personal story to help others and educating kids on drinking and driving. It takes a special person to be able to make something good from a bad and tragic situation and to use it to help and educate others.

Letter: Pastor’s Corner missed its mark
The Pastor’s Corner two weeks ago was entirely hogwash. In the first paragraph, Pastor Paris Pasch claims that God never wanted us to experience any sort of hardship. For me, that begged a question: How could anyone possibly know what god's true intentions are?

Letter: Youths in Hastings need options
I see all of these posts about Hastings on Facebook, the news and the newspapers and, yes, I am deeply saddened by all of the young loss that we have been dealing with. But I feel many are lashing out for all the wrong reasons saying this was wrong and that is wrong and why did this person do this or publish this?

Letter: ‘All of us need to ... pull Hastings together’
I have spent the past week comforting teens, wiping away tears, shedding my own and giving hugs. It hasn’t been an easy time in Hastings and I expect that the days and weeks ahead will be difficult. The good news is that we’re not without hope.

Letter: ‘Thank you, thank you and thank you’
It has been my experience that, while living and working in the same town, certain difficulties arise. I have often thought that I should have chosen to live outside of Hastings so that I could avoid the awkwardness of knowing the driver who gets the ticket, the friend who gets arrested, or the family who is so hurting.

Popular or not, voting is an important right and responsibility. Like many of the rest of us, I would rather avoid the constant ads this time of year. Our system might have some flaws in execution, but it is still far better than some of the other forms of governance out there.
