Letter: Hastings Family Service gives thanks
Fifteen years ago the Thanksgiving Day family tradition called Gobble Gait was born out of a dream. The fun run raised $4,600 dollars that first year. This year, Gobble Gait brought 3,300 participants together on a beautiful morning, raising $95,000 for the programs at Hastings Family Service.

Gobble Gait raised $95,000 for Hastings Family Service
The 15th annual Gobble Gait will go down as the biggest and best on record. More than 3,300 participants took place. There were 1,462 pounds of food donated and $95,000 will be donated to Hastings Family Service, thanks to the runners and walkers who registered and the numerous donations from area businesses.

A warm Gobble Gait is Thursday; registration still available
Hastings area residents can leave those parkas at home for the 15th annual Gobble Gait run/walk on Thanksgiving. High temperatures are forecast to reach 57 degrees on Thursday and at racetime, the temperature is expected to be at about 52 degrees. The 8K run begins at 8:30 a.m. and the 2K run/walk begins immediately after the 8K race.

Oak Ridge quilters do it again with lap robes for nursing home, quilts for bazaar
The hands are busy cutting, tying and lining up the brightly-colored fabric squares. A shopping cart is filled the fabric remnants. The Oak Ridge quilters are working on quilts and lap robes each Monday afternoon in the community room of the complex. This year, they will have completed more than 52 lap robes for the residents of the Farmington Nursing Home. Another 65 quilts will be offered for sale at the upcoming fall bazaar (Nov. 17), with some of the proceeds designated for Hastings Family Service.

Registration opens for 15th annual GobbleGait
The tradition is returning. The 15th annual Gobble Gait, with its familiar message of raising funds and food for Hastings Family Service will be held again on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 22, in downtown Hastings. Begun as a small run/walk in 1998 to benefit Hastings Family Service, the event is no longer small. Last year more than 2,500 participated in the 2K walk and 8K run.
