Watch the chimney swifts of downtown Hastings
Each fall Chimney Swifts gather in communal roosts before migrating to the Amazon Basin. Watch the Chimney Swifts on Wednesday, Aug, 29, starting at 7:15 p.m. The swifts gather at sunset in a swirling group, then drop like x-wing fighters into a chimney, where they will roost overnight, clinging to the sides of the chimney with their tiny toes. This tiny, flying insectivore’s population has declined more than 50 percent in the past 40 years. To learn more about these creatures, join Ron Windingstad, of Audubon Minnesota, for a brief outdoor presentation.
