Letter: Why does the HPD patrol General Sieben Drive so much?
I am just curious as to why the Hastings Police Department seems to patrol General Seiben Drive and the road near Smead Manufacturing so well. It seems to me that the speed limit in those two areas could easily be at least 45 mph as there is very little, if any, accesses, and relatively low traffic.

Letter: ‘The Sound of Music’ should be enjoyed by the public
I am writing to invite all people old, young and in between, to come and see what a considerable part of our community has been working on. It is Black Dirt Theater’s “The Sound of Music” play.

Letter: Thanks to city staff for storm cleanup
Last week we drove on Spiral Boulevard and saw someone with a weed trimmer cutting all the weeds in the ditches. I must say it sure looks much better with all the ragweed and goldenrod cut down along with all the other weeds, or so called wild flowers.

Letter: Thanks to everyone who helped find missing boy
We would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who helped find our son, Scott. Words cannot describe the appreciation we have for all of the law enforcement, EMS, fire and rescue, and all of the individuals who searched, donated items, and offered support. We were overwhelmed by the number of people that stopped what they were doing and rushed to our home to help search for our son.

Letter: Bible’s interpretation of marriage should be left out of state law
My partner, of 14 years, and I moved to Hastings earlier this year from Minneapolis. Having both grown up in River Falls, Wis., we were looking for a smaller, tight-knit community similar to our hometown. So far, we are very pleased with the move.

Letter: Braveheart should be allowed to continue its good work
I am a volunteer for Braveheart Rescue, and have been since January of this year. I clean kennels, help with adoptions and help socialize the dogs. It saddens me to think of Braveheart closing.

Letter: Dogs at Braveheart need to be saved
