Blood drive in Hastings planned for Jan 21-22
The Hastings community Red Cross blood drive will be held Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 21 and Jan. 22, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Each donation means helping more than one person, organizers say. The blood drive will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday; and from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the church, 400 W. Ninth St. To make an appointment, call Gail at 651-248-1173.

Show choir: Riverside company captured top honors at Iowa competition
Riverside Company, the top Hastings High School show choir, won top honors at the annual Waukee, Iowa, invitational, called Star Struck. A total of 18 choirs competed at the meet, including nine in Hastings’ class. In addition, the team received caption awards for best vocals and best choreography. That the team was able to pull all that off on Saturday amazed director Lin Warren.

Due to a recent surge in influenza cases, Regina Medical Center has placed restrictions on visitors to its Family Birthing Center. “Effective immediately, only fathers, siblings and grandparents will be allowed access to the family birthing center,” said Debra Eiselt, director of infection prevention at Regina.

Mark Weber has been busy lately. He’s been the subject of much media attention, thanks to a self-published book he wrote called “Tell My Sons.” On Saturday, Jan. 19, the Rosemount resident will return to Hastings, his wife’s and his grandparent’s hometown, to present the book to Hastings residents. The book signing event will be held at the Pleasant Hill Library from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 19.
