Keeping up the fight: Marty Caneff is 30 months into his fight with brain cancer
One morning in April 2010, Marty Caneff of Hastings had a bad headache. He couldn’t shake it, and he told his wife Margie he just didn’t feel right. Within hours, the Hastings father of three was in an ambulance on his way to United Hospital. A CAT scan had revealed a tumor on his brain. “It was horrible — It was totally horrible,” Margie Caneff said. “We didn’t know what was going to happen. That’s the day that our world changed. It was devastating, to say the least.”

During her 16 years on earth, Kate Curtis hasn’t caught a lot of fish. The ones she has caught, though, have certainly been memorable. In August, while in Alaska on a family vacation, Curtis caught what may be her last fish – an 88-inch, 375-pound halibut.

New dance studio opens in Hastings
Rain Academy of Dance recently opened its doors in Hastings. Beginning on Monday, Aug. 13, the studio offered preparatory classes to those hoping to audition for programs that required it, with the actual auditions taking place later in the week. More auditions will be held in September.
