Letter: In support of Katie Sieben
In 2011, newly elected GOP leaders promised a “laser focus” on job creation.  Their focus was quickly distracted by rigid right-wing issues that brought us the state’s longest government shutdown.

Letter: In support of Mike Slavik
This year is the first time in decades that we’re guaranteed to have a new county commissioner representing our district. Why is this choice important? County commissioners set tax rates, oversee the construction and maintenance of critical highways, administer courts and human services, and ensure a quick and efficient response to police and fire emergencies.

Letter: Theft of campaign signs shows intolerance
Minnesota Marriage Protection Amendment, vote “Yes” or vote “No.” This is very straight forward and simple, or is it? I am not writing in today to discuss your views, your choice of lifestyle, your faith or any other factors that will sway you to make a choice on voting. Today I want to discuss “intolerance.”

Letter: Traditions are being destroyed by oppressors
Every time we turn on the news we hear of another place in our country where God, a cross or a nativity scene is being removed from the public square. The ACLU, along with their co-conspirators, the Democrat Party, is attempting to destroy the traditions we hold sacred.

Letter: Are these layers of government needed?
On Sept. 18 I attended an informational meeting by the Metropolitan Council at the Dakota County Westcott Library. Met Council representatives for Eagan were in attendance as well as many Dakota County officials. The focus of the meeting was the Met Councils vision of a seven county plan which would extend to the year 2040. After listening to the presentation and reading the handout provided, I had a number of observations.

Letter: In support of Janis Quinlan
I am supporting Janis Quinlan for state senator from our district. I have worked with her on her campaign and find that she shares many of the same concerns as I do; lowering taxes, protecting personal liberty and reduction in the size of government, just to name a few, with a good measure of common sense and humor thrown in.

Dozens of people around the city, including myself, have had their “Vote Yes” on the marriage amendment yard signs stolen or painted over.

Letter: In support of Katie Sieben
Partisan gridlock has been strangling progress at all government levels. For some, working together and compromise have become bad words.

Letter: Presidential campaign has been superficial so far
Let’s cut to the chase:  So far the campaign has focused on superficial issues. Does it really matter that Romney put his dog on the roof of a car or Obama has played a lot of golf? No, this election is about the philosophy of Liberals vs. Conservatives.

Letter: Balsanek says he was just the messenger
Don’t blame me! I was just the messenger. When it was announced that the Hastings bridge would close over the weekend of Sept. 7-9 for 48 to 72 hours, I was approached by business owners and constituents, who asked if I would send a request to MnDOT that they not close the bridge over the weekend because of all the local events scheduled during that time, including the Woodbury/Hastings football game, the downtown car show, the LeDuc Civil War presentation, Prescott Daze and the Hastings Fire Department Booya.

Letter: Councilmember clarifies where he got the bridge’s new pricetag
The “Star Gazette” printed an editorial in its Aug. 23 issue based on a question I asked at the Aug. 20 Hastings City Council meeting, directed at Steve Kordosky, the state’s project manager for the new Hastings bridge. I asked him for an update on the revised cost of the bridge as a result of the State of Minnesota government shutdown last year.

Letter: In support of Mike Slavik
My father was the veteran service director for Dakota County for 30 years. He would work heavily with the county commissioners and they would work with him to get what he needed to do his job effectively, regardless of party affiliation.
