Dakota City Heritage Village will hold its fourth annual Armed Forces Day World War II weekend on Saturday, May 18, and Sunday, May 19. Saturday hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday hours will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The village is located at the fairgrounds in Farmington. The World War II Historical Re-enacting Society will have over 30 groups performing a WWII Living History weekend, according to organizers Jon Boorom and Ray Rygula.

Hastings man arrested following standoff Tuesday night
The 2300 block of Oak Street was full of police activity on Tuesday, April 16, for about three hours. At about 8 p.m., officers learned that a man with an active warrant was in a residence on Oak Street. They also learned the man had a handgun.

Doffing pleads guilty to school bus stop violation
Hastings Police Officer Rene Doffing has pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to stop for a school bus stop arm. A second charge for failing to stop for a school bus while children were outside has been dismissed in Dakota County District Court. The conviction was deemed a petty misdemeanor. Doffing was ordered to pay a fine of $300, and fees of $80. According to court documents, the fines and fees have been paid.

Letter: Residents are responsible for their own vehicles
As citizens we have a duty to our fellow neighbors. This is where the term civic duty originates. While I may personally feel bad that certain citizens’ vehicles may have been lawfully ticketed and towed based on them not knowing about a snow emergency, even the one interviewed for the recent story realized there was a chance of a snow storm.
