Letter: In support of Mike Slavik
I first got to know Mike Slavik while serving together as adult leaders on Mission Mexico 2005 and since that time he has been a great friend. I have witnessed his leadership skills firsthand and can honestly tell you he has the qualities to make a fine county commissioner.

Letter: Go see Black Dirt Theater’s ‘Resurrection’
I had the opportunity to attend Black Dirt Theater’s production of The Sound of Music” last summer. Up until that time, I thought of community theater as a chance for amateurs to have some fun on the stage, resulting in performances high on enthusiasm but low in quality.

There’s been much talk about the color of the new bridge. Some, viewing the main span during its move last weekend, said they weren’t so sure about the color, while others appreciated that it stands out. Officially, the bridge color is “terra cotta.” It was chosen by the Visual Quality Team in December of 2010.

September is Senior Center Month
For almost 40 years, the Hastings Area Senior Center has been providing programs for people 55 and older in the community. It has grown in the number, the quality and the variety of the programs it has offered. It is a good time for the Hastings Area Senior Center. It has been housed in the Tilden Community Center for about a year and the positive reviews of the building have yet to end. More people have connected with the center, additional programs are offered and double-booking of activities is ongoing.

Letter: ‘Black Dirt is a tremendous asset to the community’
In last week's paper, Tom Braucks letter stated that he hated, in fact loathed, musicals because of their insufferable irrational melodrama and silly plots. Nevertheless, he still enjoyed “The Sound of Music” by Black Dirt Theater. Good for him.

We are deep into another election season with national, statewide and local races taking center stage. What are often overlooked and underappreciated are the judicial elections. As a practicing lawyer who appears in court often, I know the importance of having experienced, highly qualified, fair and impartial judges presiding over cases.
