Letter: Voters should know what legislators are proposing
As I visit with Minnesotans across the state, many are surprised to learn that they never get to see the actual language of the two proposed changes to our state’s Constitution on their ballot. This seems odd to many voters given the importance of the Constitution as our state’s highest law but that is our current procedure.

Governor’s proposal would bring new money to Hastings
Governor Mark Dayton’s state budget proposal has a lot of people talking in St. Paul. While much of the focus has been given over to how the governor would change state sales taxes, there’s another aspect that could – if approved – mean major help for Hastings.

Editorial: Lawmakers’ turn to value higher ed
If budgets truly are statements of values then it is clear Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton values education, including higher education, into which he proposes investing $262 million over the next two years. That would be a 10 percent increase, and it represents the largest percentage increase in the spending plan the governor has pitched to the state Legislature.

Letter: Iowa is good example of why amendment should pass
While the Star-Gazette editorial regarding the proposed marriage amendment is correct in stating that a “No” vote on the amendment would not make homosexual marriage legal in Minnesota since state law already defines marriage as between a man and woman, it does not state the reason many consider a “Yes” vote essential.

Letter: ‘Everybody should have the right to get married’
I wish my fiance and I would have known about the recent rally here in Hastings against the proposed marriage amendment because we would've certainly been in attendance. We both agree that everybody should have the right to get married and live the life they want to live as long as it isn't negatively affecting others.
