Letter: Vote ‘Yes’ for marriage
When a majority of the delegates at the Democrat National convention, on a voice vote, booed (God and Jerusalem), and the overall theme of the convention was government paid abortions and birth control, I wondered what had happened to my country. With 85 percent of Americans professing to be Christians, how do we explain the coordinated attack on marriage, religion, family and our culture, the values we hold most dear.

Letter: God took care of defining marriage
Tonight we read through the Hastings Star Gazette and for the first time ever we telephoned the people who wrote about the marriage amendment. These people took time to think through the age-old understanding of marriage, and then they actually saw this as important enough to sit down and write a letter for the Opinion page.

Letter: Benefits of marriage should be extended to same-sex couples
I recently saw a billboard near the I-494 bridge in South St. Paul that features a black bride and groom. The billboard is one of several around the state that was paid for by Minnesota for Marriage, a group that wants to define marriage as between one man and one woman.

Letter: Same-sex marriage attempts to ‘redefine what constitutes acceptable behavior’
Same-sex marriage is another step in the deconstruction of the traditional Judeo-Christian definition of family, which has made America the greatest nation on earth. However: all cultures, not only Judeo-Christian cultures, have defined marriage as between a man and woman.

Minnesota becomes first state to reject constitutional gay-marriage ban
ST. PAUL -- Minnesotans became the first state to reject a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. Since a state law remains on the books, the vote does not automatically allow same-sex weddings. However, with a newly elected Democratic-Farmer-Laborite Legislature and governor, the subject is bound to be debated when lawmakers take office in January.

A unique anniversary: On Dec. 3, Everett and Betty Turnbull celebrated 63 years of marriage, just as his grandparents did long ago
On Dec. 3, Everett and Betty Turnbull celebrated 63 years of marriage. They didn’t make much of the day; they only planned a dinner out with their son, daughter-in-law and two grandsons.

Letter: In support of the marriage amendment
In the beginning of our creation, God made man and woman for companionship, not man and man or woman and woman. The Bible speaks out against homosexuality. This is not politics, this is our very being. If you choose to be a couple that is not woman and man, then call it by another title, just as it’s been done with “gay,” “straight” and so on.

Letter: Legislators should vote ‘Yes’ for gay marriage
The state legislature will soon vote on a bill that would expand the freedom to marry to gay and lesbian couples. We hope our legislators will vote yes. We’ve been married for over 53 years. In that time together we have walked with one another through the ups and downs of life.

Editorial: Vote no on Minnesota marriage, voter ID amendments
Constitutions are all about the structuring of government; they offer overall guiding principles and framework to help make sure our rulers don’t trample on our personal rights and liberties. They’re big-picture documents.

Letter: Iowa is good example of why amendment should pass
While the Star-Gazette editorial regarding the proposed marriage amendment is correct in stating that a “No” vote on the amendment would not make homosexual marriage legal in Minnesota since state law already defines marriage as between a man and woman, it does not state the reason many consider a “Yes” vote essential.

Letter: Bible’s interpretation of marriage should be left out of state law
My partner, of 14 years, and I moved to Hastings earlier this year from Minneapolis. Having both grown up in River Falls, Wis., we were looking for a smaller, tight-knit community similar to our hometown. So far, we are very pleased with the move.

Letter: Grace should be extended to all people
There is a push under way in Minnesota to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman. This action has been introduced by some in the religious community as a premise to uphold the sanctity of marriage.
