The French language rooms on the third floor of Hastings High School (teacher Brian Drummond calls it the penthouse suite) are filled with French artifacts, reminders, photographs and keepsakes from trips. Letter: Braveheart Rescue needs to be saved
After reading the article about the closing of Bravehart Rescue by Marshan township, I felt that I had to write the paper about my feelings on this matter. I am hoping that many other people step up and make the people who made this decision take another look at what this means not only to the people involved, but to the innocent animals they are condemning. The truth is that some, if not many of these animals, could be put to death because of their selfish and heartless decisions.

Family displaced by fire last April plans to move in this weekend
Christmas will come a little late for the Appert family of Hastings. In April, the family’s home at the intersection of 17th Street West and Pleasant Drive was destroyed by fire. Initially, they hoped they’d be back in their home by the time the holidays came around, but a number of factors slowed things down along the way, and they’re going to come up just a few days short of reaching that goal. They expect to move in this weekend.

Hastings man, one day from retirement, was working in the same building as the deadly Minneapolis workplace shooting last week
On his second-to-last day of work, life was supposed to be simple for Hastings resident John Gillis. He had retirement cake over lunch, and his mind drifted to all the ways he was going to be spending his retirement. Those plans were all changed in an instant when a disgruntled employee in the same building as Gillis opened fire in Minneapolis, killing five people and then himself.
