Monday’s snowstorm was the perfect opportunity for Sarah Foster to update a photo from her baby book
As a curious 3-year-old, Sarah Foster’s parents didn’t need to prod her much to go play in the snow. Even in late April. So, after a freak snowstorm on April 28, 1994, there she was, running around in the family’s Hastings backyard near what was then Tilden Elementary. One of her parents gave her a sign that simply read: “April 28, 1994. It’s snowing.”

Everyday Hero: Sarah Wasvick
About four years ago, Sarah Wasvick’s son Taylor took to the football field for the Hastings Raiders. Wasvick wanted to help, and one thing she figured she could do was snap a few photos for the players. She wanted better photos of her sons, so she began clicking away and hasn’t looked back, spending her Friday nights in the fall running up and down the field with camera in hand. She’s continued the work, even though she no longer has a son on the team.

A day in the life of Hastings: Section aims to capture everyday life here
Every day, our little community of Hastings is full of activity. We wondered exactly what all of that activity would look like in a special section, and got started planning for our first “A day in the life of Hastings” project. Beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 21, we got started on the project and by the end of that day we had amassed thousands of photos and talked with dozens and dozens of Hastings residents.
