Connor Loch helps restore cemetery fence
Much of the fence at Soldiers and Sailors Cemetery has a fresh look to it, thanks to Hastings High School student and Boy Scout Troop 23 member Connor Loch. The Scoutmaster is Steve Forrey. During the weekend of June 2-3, Loch, several family members and friends restored the outside of the fence along First Street. The restoration was Loch’s Eagle Scout project, a project he first began thinking about last spring.

Thirteen years ago, Steve Miller moved to Hastings with his wife for a job at Dakota County. There, he worked as a juvenile probation officer. Helping youths, he said, is something that has been important to him and that’s something he is still doing. These days, though, you won’t find him at the courthouse.
