Paul W. Lawrence (P.W.), age 90, of Welch, died peacefully on May 18 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Paul was born March 19, 1922, in Scobey, Mont., to Albert and Myrtle Lawrence. He attended schools in Red Wing. He served in the United States Navy from 1940 to 1946 and is a member of “the greatest generation.” On July 20, 1945, Paul married the love of his life, Delores (Laurie) Von Bargen in Red Wing, Minn. He established Lawrence Construction and Realty in 1948 which is still in business today. Paul was also a partner in Hastings Construction, IBI, and Sunstream.

Paul is survived by his wife, Laurie; his six sons, Mitch (Debbie) Lawrence, John (Terri) Lawrence, Tom (Debbie) Lawrence, David (Sharon) Lawrence, Gary (Dana) Lawrence, and Don Lawrence; as well as 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Tony, Vincent, and Howard; and sister, Marguerite Godwin.

Paul’s great joy in life was his family, horses, and golfing. His love of life was infectious and he will be dearly missed.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Monday, May 21, at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing, with Reverend Robert Iverson officiating. Visitation will be for 1 hour prior to the service at church.
