Ruth L. Swanson, age 87, of Hastings, died Sunday, March 10, at the Regina Nursing Home.

Ruth was born Aug. 28, 1925, in Castle Rock, Minn., to Arthur and Augusta (Lieder) Cowell. She was a graduate of Lakeville High School and had been employed locally at Smead Mfg., Intek, and Dakota County. Ruth married Harry Swanson in 1947 in South St. Paul. He died in 1980. She was a Gold Star Mother and a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

She was preceded by her parents; husband, Harry, and son Lawrence "Larry" in 1968; her twin brother and six sisters.

Ruth is survived by three sons, Duane (Nancy) of Hastings, Donald (Shirley) of Wyoming, Minn., and Len (Sandy) of Woodbury; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; also sister Gladys Soberg of Lakeville, Minn.

The funeral service, officiated by Fr. Frank VanDeSteeg will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 615 Vermillion St., Hastings, with visitation held 2 hours prior to service at the church. Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery. The pallbearers are Jamie, Josh, and Joel Swanson, Nate Kringle, Alec and Curt Swanson.
