Shirley Carner, 85

Shirley T. (Kummer) Carner of Prescott, Wis., passed away Jan. 13 at age 85.

Born and raised in Miesville, Minn., daughter of Arthur and Lena Kummer.

Survived by children James Hunter, (Val), Michele Lee (Tom), Brenda Gunderson (Bill), Teresa Hunter, Michael Hunter (Deb), Lisa Larson (Dale); brothers Harold Kummer and Gary Kummer; sister Caroyl Reichling; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by sisters Eleanor Hunter and Arlene Oehlke.

Shirley was a 1943 graduate of Hastings High School at the age of 15. Her parents trained her in music, and she won the 1940 Minnesota Music Teacher's Piano Competition. She continued to play the piano and organ throughout her life. Shirley had a lifelong passion for flying and was licensed at the age of 17...temporarily suspended after flying under the Hastings Spiral Bridge. In 1990, she retired from 3M Chemolite after 20+ years of service. She was active in volunteer organizations, held office in city government, and continued to contribute to the Prescott community until her death.

Shirley loved her family and friends and showed compassion for all animals. She will be greatly missed for her sense of humor and love of life.

Visitation will be held at Hill Funeral Home, 1339 Orrin Rd., Prescott, WI 54021, from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18. Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Parish, 281 Dakota St. S., Prescott, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19. Private family burial will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Miesville, Minn.
