Died Oct. 16, 2012

Chae Sun (Linda) Kang Ryan, age 78, of Hastings, Minn., passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 16.

She was born April 10, 1934, in Taego, South Korea.

She is survived by her husband, Patrick Ryan; numerous nieces; nephews; stepchildren; step-grandchildren; brothers; sisters and friends.

She was preceded in death by an older brother and sister.

Linda Ryan immigrated to the United States in the early 1960s. Not long after arriving in the United States Linda found a love in gourmet cooking and used that skill to successfully manage two of the top restaurants in the Twin Cities: The Rosewood Room in Minneapolis and the St. Paul Hotel. Linda took great pride in gourmet cooking during her entire career and afterward serving many fantastic dishes to family and friends throughout the years. We will all sadly miss Linda's company and, of course, her wonderful cooking!

Linda shared her success with her family, successfully bringing seven of her brothers and sisters over to the United States from South Korea. Linda's other great love was gardening, where she spent many hours planting, trimming, pruning, and sculpting her gardens around the house. Her gardening efforts resulted in participation in the Hastings Garden tours during Rivertown days. Her green thumb and landscaping skills also earned her an invite to the Hastings Star Gazette's feature article "WHO LIVES THERE," which displayed her work in a full page layout.

Linda was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton but mostly attended Mass at the St. Paul Cathedral or St. Andrew Kim Korean Catholic Church in St. Paul.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at St. Andrew Kim Catholic Church, 1850 South Mississippi River Boulevard, St. Paul, MN 55116.

Following the Mass, a celebration of life luncheon will be held between 12:30-2:30 p.m. at the Hibachi Grill located at 1201 South Robert St., St. Paul, MN 55118.

Memorials should be made out to and sent to St. Andrew Kim Catholic Church.

Please see the Hastings Star Gazette online obituaries and Minneapolis Star Tribune obituary section for further information.
