Collette Agnes Cullen, age 82, of Hastings, Minn., passed away peacefully at home Oct. 13.
She was born Jan. 1, 1930, in Fargo, N.D., to John W. and Marion Heisler Cullen.
She is survived by her sister, Anne (William) Bergeron of Sioux City, Iowa; sister-in-law, Jean (John) Cullen of Omaha, Neb.; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph and John Cullen.
Collette graduated from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn., and took vows in the Order of St. Benedict in 1951. She worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth as a radiology/X-ray technician for many years before physical disabilities caused her to change careers to education. She left the order to pursue her teaching credentials and worked teaching sixth grade at Pullman School in St. Paul Park, South Washington County School District.
She loved teaching and her students…she also enjoyed her summers off! Since her retirement, travel became her passion. Her trips to China, Greece, France, Ireland, and Africa were among her favorites. She was a committed pet owner and a generous and wonderful friend. She enjoyed golf, dominoes at the Senior Center, her Silver Sneakers classes at the Y, and morning coffee at Emily's Bakery and Panera.
Many dear friends helped Collette in her final illness and her family would like to acknowledge Eugene Gergen, Mary Stevens, Gretchen Sells, Ann Christensen, Angela Raskob and family, and Dr. Stuart Bloom for their caring compassion, among many others.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 W. 15th St., Hastings. Gathering 1 hour prior to Mass at church. The interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery North in Fargo. Memorials are preferred to the Animal Ark of Hastings or the Lewis House.
