Peter D. Schoen, age 79, of Hastings, died Sept. 29 in St. Paul following a brief illness.

Peter was born July 2, 1933, in Hastings, to Cyrus and Dorothy (Shingledecker) Schoen. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1951. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was married to Elizabeth “Betty” Moris on April 15, 1988, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings. He was a former barber who owned Mr. Barber in Cottage Grove and Newport and also operated Mr. Apple Orchard in Denmark Township. He was a member of the Hastings VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kurt; and a brother, Paul.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; four daughters, Linda (Rich) Myklebust of Hastings, Shari (Doug) Maxon of Farmington, Barbara (James) Bowen of River Falls, and Sandy (Jim) Leifeld of Hastings; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Lucas, Elijah, Savannah, Georgia, Logan, and Sam.
A visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 Seventh St. E., Hastings, and also 1 hour prior to the funeral at church on Thursday. The funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Cole Kracke, will be at noon Thursday, Oct. 4, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 15th St. W., Hastings. Interment, with military honors provided by Hastings VFW Post #1210, is in the parish cemetery.
