Janet Ann McNamara, 76

Janet Ann McNamara, age 76, passed on Sept. 7 in Hastings, Minn., one day after her 54th wedding anniversary.

Janet was born to Anthony and Dora (Reinardy) Kasel on Aug. 22, 1936. She grew up on the Kasel family farm located just outside of Vermillion, Minn. On Sept. 6, 1958, she married her partner for life, Bill McNamara. Janet lived most of her life in Hastings but took a 10-year detour to Danville, Ky., before retiring back in Hastings.

Janet loved her role as mom and later grandma to her brood. She was an exceptional friend to many. If you met her, you had a friend for life. Her entire life was spent caring for others by reaching out to those through homebound ministry and by hosting countless gatherings at her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Janet is survived by her loving husband, Bill; five very grateful children, Peggy (Mitch) Horsch, Pat (Patty), Bill (Kellie), all of Hastings, Mike (Becky), of Edina, Minn., and Marie (Keith) Link of Edgewood, Ky.; nine grandchildren who will miss her dearly, Ted, Ben, and Meredith Horsch, Jeremy (Jane) Anderberg, Jake McNamara, Peter and Meghan McNamara, and Martha and Evelyn Link. Janet is big sister to Ken (Alvenia) Kasel, Tony (Mary) Kasel, Judy (Leon) Zweber, Jane (Gary) Eberspacher, Mary (Don) Haas, Bernadette (Jim) Kautio, Ted (Kay) Kasel, and Jim (Leslie) Kasel. Janet is also survived by many nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Mother Seton Hall, 2035 W. 15th St., Hastings, and from 9:30-10:30 a.m., 1 hour prior to the funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Cole Kracke and concelebrated by Fr. Stephen Beauclair at the church. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
