Catherine was born Aug. 15, 1921, in Vermillion Township, to Louis and Catherine (Fox) Leifeld. She married Joseph P. Ginther on Sept. 12, 1946, and had worked in production at Smead Mfg. prior to her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; son Joseph L.; daughter Susan; granddaughter Tabitha; her parents; and brothers, Joseph and Leo.
Catherine is survived by her children Mariann Warner, Gene Ginther, Luci (Geoff) Raison, Rich (Sharon) Ginther, Tom (Laura) Ginther, Dianne (Tim) Kelly, Steve (Judy) Ginther, Donna (Joe) Lorentz, and Margie (LeRoy Johnson) Ginther; daughter-in-law Barb Ginther; grandchildren Jake and Josh Ginther, Kris Hinderscheid, Sarah and Jason Raison, Shawn and Matt Ginther, Amanda, Jackie, and Maria Lorentz, Rory and Caitlin Ginther, Nick, Chris, and Nathan Kelly, Joey and Cory Ginther; great-grandchildren, Kalvin, Carter, Connor, and Kale Hinderscheid, Gavin Kelly, and Marcus Lorentz; sisters Dorothy (Bud) Becker and Theresa (Billy) King; sisters-in-law Luella and Helen Leifeld; also many nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 E. 7th St., Hastings, and 1 hour prior to the service at church. A VFW Auxiliary service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. James Perkl and Fr. Robert Altier, will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 W. 15th St., Hastings. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jake and Josh Ginther, Nick Kelly, Shawn, Matt, Rory, Joey, and Cory Ginther. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris and Nate Kelly, Amanda, Jackie and Maria Lorentz, Sarah Raison, Kris Hinderscheid, Caitlin Ginther, and members of the VFW Auxiliary.
