Thomas J. Reuter, age 73, of Hastings, died March 30 at his home.
Thomas J. Reuter, age 73, of Hastings, died March 30 at his home.
Tom was born Sept. 16, 1938, in Hastings, to Gregory and Ruth (Brennan) Reuter. He was a 1956 graduate of Hastings High School and served in the Army National Guard. Tom married Patricia Smith on April 25, 1959, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings. He worked at 3M for 38 years prior to his retirement. Tom and Pat have enjoyed wintering in Apache Junction, Ariz., for the last 16 years.
Tom was deeply loved by his family and friends. They will miss his humor, his helping spirit, and his love of life.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and brothers John, Jeffrey, and Roger.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; children Scott (Donna) Reuter of River Falls, Wis., Lynn (Tom) Schoen of Wabasha, Minn., and Joel (Melinda) Reuter of Indianapolis, Ind.; six grandchildren, Timothy and Collin Reuter, Christopher Allen, Anna Schoen, Quinn and Olivia Reuter; six step-grandchildren, Madeline DeVore, Mitchell Brier, Ted, Nate, Ben, and Christian Schoen; siblings Claire Mathews, Eugene Reuter, Don (Mary T.) Reuter, all of Hastings, and Bill J. Reuter of West St. Paul; brother-in-law Rodney (Dorothy) Smith of Hastings; also several nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Cole Kracke, will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 W. 15th St., Hastings. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 E. Seventh St., Hastings, and 1 hour prior to the service at church. Pallbearers are Tim Reuter, Collin Reuter, Christopher Allen, Jeff Mathews, Greg Mathews, Jim Slattum, Bob Dillon, and Tony Lane.
