Gladys V. Westland, age 93, of Hastings, died March 27 at Regina Nursing Home.

Gladys was born Nov. 25, 1918, in Fertile Township, Iowa, to Ole and Anna (Ramsey) Tweed. She was a graduate of Fertile High School in Fertile, Iowa. Gladys married Lewine A. Westland on June 6, 1942, in Nashua, Iowa, and worked at Smead Mfg. for 25 years prior to retirement.

She enjoyed traveling, wintering in Arizona, and spending time with her grandchildren. According to her family, “she crocheted like the wind.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and eight siblings.

Gladys is survived by her children, Carole Jean (Richard) Kirtz of Hastings, Mike (Ann) Westland of Hastings, and Julie (Norman) Zurfluh of Rosemount; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and sister Iona Mae Alexander of Waukegan, Ill.

The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Doug Duin, will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 30, at Our Saviour’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 400 W. Ninth St., Hastings, with visitation 1 hour prior to service at the church. Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery. Pallbearers are David Kirtz, Brian Kirtz, Eric Westland, Kevin Westland, Jeffrey Zurfluh and Patrick Dowell; honorary pallbearers are Lisa Fritze, Debbie Dowell and Amy Willkomm.
