Richard John Carl Sr., “Butch,” a lifelong resident of Hastings, passed away at his home March 16.

Richard John Carl Sr., “Butch,” a lifelong resident of Hastings, passed away at his home March 16.

He was born May 2, 1933, in Hastings, to Elmer and Catherine Carl. Butch was in the U.S. Army and worked at 3M for 33 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Edward; stepdaughter Kim Cook; and his sister, Lois.

He is survived by his wife, Maryce; son Richard Jr. (Kristen) Carl; daughter, Cindy Carl; stepdaughters Sandy (Steve) Nieman and Cindy (Scott) La Pointe; granddaughters, Emily Cook, Heather (Christopher) Bell, Molly Cook, and Jaci (Joseph) Larson; grandsons, Tim (Cheryl) Carl and Brad Becker; brothers, Don, Leroy Sr., Kenneth (Pat) Carl; great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

The funeral service, officiated by Pastor Lloyd Menke and Fr. Scott Carl, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, at Wise Family Funeral Home, 400 Spring St., Hastings. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to Hastings Family Service.
